As the land available to indigenous farmers in Mesoamerica has vanished, many Mayan households have sought other means to supplement their income. Many women have come to rely on their skills as weavers, potters and so forth. These women have banded together to form artisan cooperatives allowing them to buy their supplies in bulk in order to compete with mass-produced items. Patchwork quilting is a traditional Mayan craft, using cotton patches to develop unique and vibrant color schemes with rich texture. The quilt is made of patches from various regions of Guatemala, reflecting a variety of styles and colors; the backing is 100-percent polyester. Corner tabs are sewn on each quilt, allowing your eye-catching creation to be hung as a tapestry. We strongly recommend that you hand wash your quilt and pillow covers in cold water and hang it to dry, or have them professionally dry cleaned.
